In this four-part professional development series for World Language teachers we will review the Kansas World Language Standards, proficiency-based instruction, and the differences between proficiency vs. language performance in class with scaffolds. Each two-hour session is designed to provide participants with a standards-based lesson plan that can be taught on-line or in person. Participants will experience the lessons as if they were students. There will also be time to discuss the processes. Participants can attend one or all four sessions. Each session will progress from models of teaching lower to higher proficiency levels. The first session focuses on Novice Mid learners and the last session focuses on Intermediate High for teachers moving their students to the proficiency levels needed to earn the Seal of Biliteracy. Each session will provide activities using the three modes of communication within the context of the other four Cs of the standards.
